Back to home

The interministerial product operator (OPI) at DINUM builds and runs shared digital products for the French state. Its hosting platform carries FranceConnect, FranceTransfert and Grist: the collaborative spreadsheet-database of La Suite numérique, open to staff across ministries, prefectures and local authorities. To our knowledge, it is the Grist instance with the most users in the world.

What we worked on

Administer the instance

Take part in day-to-day operations of the cluster: deployments, upgrades, backups and availability of a service open to every public servant.

Carry the load

Monitor and size a platform whose usage keeps growing, where every document is a real working process that cannot go down.

Work in the open

Operate a product whose core, grist-core, is open source and which the French administration contributes to without forking: several hundred contributions already merged upstream.

Equip the team

Make operations reproducible and shared, so knowledge of the platform stays inside the operator’s team.

What this engagement shows

A sovereign tool only exists if it holds up in production. The work is the same as anywhere else (deploy, observe, absorb the load), but on a service public servants depend on daily, whose code stays a commons.
